Stockholm Syndrome

I was just thinking about the Stockholm Syndrome. When a person is kidnapped and held captive, even tortured, over a period of time he/she often starts to see his captor as a good person and has a desire to please him. This is likely a survival trick the victim's brain plays on him without his even realizing it. Please the person in control and you survive, get beaten less, are treated better. Soon the victim may lose the desire to escape and even see his captor as a benefactor.
It just occurred to me that the same thing must happen on a larger scale. The ruling class (government) controls its subjects more and more until virtually every aspect of their lives is controlled. Soon they believe the government is actually their benefactor and is needed for their safety, protection, and prosperity. They even refuse to listen to anyone who tries to tell them different. They even believe that they are free. They cheer for their captor and hate anyone who tries to point out the truth.
As Larken Rose pointed out, people will watch movies like Braveheart and Hunger Games and cheer for the rebels, then go home and watch MSM news and pay their taxes and obey any silly laws the controlling class makes up for them, argue with anyone who tells them they should be free, and never even see the connection. Cognitive dissonance."
